Investor Relations (IR) app for iPhone, iPad and Android – theIRapp™

One of America’s Largest Energy Companies

theIRapp Case Study

One of America’s largest energy companies with approximately 700 million shares outstanding, a market cap of $56 billion and more than 50% institutional ownership, decided to put into place a mobile investor relations strategy. The Fortune 250 company recognized the fact that the vast majority of its investors (both institutional and retail) were becoming increasingly dependent on their digital devices for the consumption of important, material and timely information. The company selected theIRapp to quickly and cost effectively create a native app on Apple’s App Store and Google Play and to be able to push information directly to investors’ iPhones, iPads and Android mobile devices.
“Setting up theIRapp was incredibly simple and fast! The platform is extremely flexible. Not only were we able to easily brand it, but the uploading of content takes no time at all. The content management system is intuitive and easy to navigate.”

“Feedback from both the retail and institutional investment community has been very positive. Investors like the fact that we are proactively pushing important information directly to their mobile devices.”

Public Company Challenges
Communicating With Investors

  • Investors are less beholden to their desktop computers and are becoming more reliant on mobile devices for access to information
  • Given the number of emails individuals receive on a daily basis, they are no longer a method to ensure that investors are immediately in–the-know about important and material company information
  • Company websites can be difficult to navigate via mobile browsers, especially without a strong internet connection

theIRapp platform offered the energy company:

  • It’s own branded app searchable by the company’s name in Apple’s App Store and Google Play
  • Free download for investors
  • Instantaneous upload and dissemination of information press releases, SEC filings, quarterly earnings materials, presentations, annual reports, videos, conference calls and other corporate information
  • Push notifications on home screen of user’s device when new content is added
  • Live stream investor conferences and other events through the company IR app
  • Note taking on presentations

Following the launch of the IR app in July 2014, the company issued a press release notifying its investors of its new app. The company also posted direct link to its app on the IR section of its corporate website. In less than three months, nearly 3,000 investors from 18 countries downloaded its IR app. The IR app has been opened nearly 35,000 times by those who have downloaded it. These numbers continue to grow on a daily basis.
